When Wang Engefu, the new president of Peking University, took office, he proposed ten new resolutions to students. These ten ideas spread quickly and went viral among many young people; some of the students even described them as the new school motto.

Please pass these pieces of advice on to your children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. The eighth, ninth and tenth sentences can also be used to remind the elderly to pay attention to health care.

Make “two friends”:
One “friend” is the library and the other is the sports field. Go to the sports field to exercise and keep fit. Go to the library and read a lot of books. This allows you to cultivate your mind and body, which in turn allows you to use them to their full advantage to help others as well as yourself.

Second, cultivate “two kinds of skills”:
One is duty, the other is ability.
Human relations depend on one’s duty, and work depends on one’s ability. You need both to start a successful business.

Third,
Be willing to eat “two things”: Losses and hardships.
To go through life is not to be afraid of losses, to work requires one not to be afraid of hardship. Suffering losses is a blessing, suffering a hardship is also a blessing.

Fourth,
You must possess “two powers”: One is the power of thought, the other is the power of the sword.
It is important to note that Napoleon said, “There are but two powers in the world, the sword and the mind. In the long run the sword is always beaten by the mind.”

Fifth,
Pursue “two consistencies”: One is the congruence of interests and career, and the other is the concordance of love and marriage.
Align your interests with your career to maximize your potential.
Also note that Engels said that marriage should be based on love. A marriage without love is an immoral, weak marriage.

Sixth,
Put on “two wings”: One is idealization and the other is perseverance.
If a person has these “two wings”, he can fly high and far.

Seventh,
Build “two pillars”: One is science and the other is humanities.

Eighth,
Equip yourself with two “doctors”: One is called exercise and the other is optimism.
Exercise makes you physically healthy, and optimism makes you mentally healthy. Walk ten thousand steps a day and read ten pages of a book at night.

Ninth,
Remember the “two secrets”: The secret to health is in the morning, and the secret to success is in the evening. Einstein said that people’s differences arise in their spare time. Spare time can make or destroy a person.

Tenth,
Pursue “two extremes”: One is to maximize one’s potential, and the other is to extend one’s life and health to the extreme.

北大新任校長王恩哥甫上任,便向學生提出十句話,有學生形容是 新的校訓。這十句話傳播神速,在不少年輕人裡瘋傳。
