In 1914, a fire broke out in the laboratory of the world-famous inventor Thomas Edison. Seeing that all the research was about to go up in flames, Edison’s son looked around anxiously for his father. Unexpectedly, he found that Edison, with his white hair fluttering in the wind, was watching the fire calmly in the crowd, like someone completely unrelated.
The son breathlessly said to him,: “The laboratory will soon burn, what should we do?”
Edison, said calmly,
“Go and get your mother. This fire is a once-in-a-lifetime event.”
The next day, Edison faced his laboratory in ashes and said:
“Thank God, the fire burned all my mistakes, and I can start over.”
Edison forgot what had happened, rebuilt his lab, and successfully invented the phonograph three months after the fire.
It is easy to live in the shadows of the past and forget the sunshine in front of you.
