I was inspired to write this article after I witnessed the birth of a baby on Feb 24, 2010. I would like to dedicate it to my mom and the admirable mothers of the world.

Oh, mom! I love you!
When you burst out crying and used all of your strength to push
That was after
Eighteen hours on an empty stomach
Three hours of continuous effort
And overturning the doctor’s decision to do a Cesarean-section half an hour before
I finally came out to this world

Oh, mom, I admire you!
Even though with your hard and long efforts to push
There was no sign of my coming out with what little strength you had left
You still wanted to try for another half hour
You yourself are such a tiny girl,
but you have a giant heart of giving everything you have
To the unborn child of yours

Oh, mom, I am very sorry ,forgive me not being able to help!
I felt the pain inside of you
I could visualize the flow of your tears
I heard your cries
Yet I sensed the determination and love streaming from you
I knew then that love would prevail
That all the hindrances would melt away by the power of love

Oh, mom, I thank you!
Your effort was not in vain
I finally join you and daddy in your world
I burst out of crying
When the doctor gently opened my mouth with his love and kindness
When the nurse softly cleansed me
I cried feeling the love all around me

Oh, mom, I love you the most!
I wanted to proclaim to the whole world
I might not be born with a golden spoon
But for sure I was born with love
Unconditional love, sacrificial love
The most precious love
The love of my dearest mom

Oh, mom, I really, really love you!!!!!

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” ─ Albert Einstein

With so many challenges that I was facing, I wasn’t able to see that miracles were happening in my daily life. After my first conversation with God, I realized soon after that he kept his promises and made them come to fruition. I will get into the details of these miraculous stories in my following articles.

After my husband passed away in July 1997, I decided to take a trip to my home country of Taiwan in an attempt to cure my depression. However, after spending three months there, I began to miss my family and therefore found myself yearning to move back to the states; The other part of me, however, dreaded the idea of going back to the same environment that my husband and I once shared. My children knew my intentions and decided to help me out by looking for a house for me in Orange County, far away from the familiar sights, sounds, smells and painful memories contained within our old home in Los Angeles.

Still in Taiwan, I received a call from my youngest daughter informing me that she had picked a number for the housing project lottery in Laguna Niguel. There were over 500 buyers wanting to get into a development with only 50 units. A lottery system was therefore set up to determine who would be granted the opportunity to buy one of the fifty homes. When she informed me that she had picked the number 69, I breathed a sigh of relief since I was not yet prepared to sell my house and purchase the new one.

When she called the very next day to inform me that, due to a combination of her friendly personality and a number of potential buyers dropping out of the race, we were offered a house, I was left feeling both excited and extremely anxious. How was going to come up with the money for a down payment when my house hadn’t even gone on the market yet?

Because I was in Taiwan, my daughter was in touch with my sister in Houston, TX who had graciously agreed to lend us half of the money we needed for a down payment. My best friend in Taiwan knew of my situation and offered the other half of the down payment as a gift. Within several days, we had the full down payment, and the house was in escrow. The beauty and ease in how it all came together filled me with immense gratitude, as did knowing that this was a special opportunity to begin a new chapter in my life.

After moving into the house, I began to recognize the many miracles it beheld. Upon walking into the house, I was instantly overcome by feelings of happiness. The house had high ceilings, big windows, and it was full of light and positive energy.

love-home

When I leased this house for rent, the first potential couple that wanted to move in so badly, they rushed us to move out. Later, the wife explained to me that the house address revealed that the home represented the number 9 from the perspective of numerology (4+1+4 = 9). She even showed me the description from the book, Numerology, by Juno Jordan. I have no idea as how Numerology works and I certainly not try to promote the numerology here. But the first sentence of the number 9 house from the book attracted my eyes, “If you love humanity, have no race prejudice, and can meet all classes of people, you will love this house.” It went on to say, ”giving something beautiful to the world, colored by a broad understanding of the need of others, can bring personal love that might be lacking otherwise. “ It ends with “A happy home for those who have the understanding of the brotherhood of man.”

It is not a coincident that I fell in love with the house once I moved in. It seemed that God had paved the way for me; He planted the seed of “loving humanity and having no race prejudice” long before I moved in. Once I made that house a home, the Voice told me to write a book in order to share the love, providing me with a new mission of “giving the most beautiful thing to the world.” Everything was the grand plan of the Voice.

It was within the walls of this home that underwent a spiritual renaissance, as it was within this home that I first became attuned to the Voice. Just as chapter 14 of Tao Te Ching says: “Approach it and there is no beginning; follow it and there is no end.” I’m overcome with joyous gratitude knowing that there’s been a plan for me all along – despite the pain and the hardship I’ve had to face and overcome. “There is no beginning and no end.” I am blessed to have this Voice to guide me, and I am honored to have an opportunity to share His blessings and miracles with others through my writing.

Oh, Buster!

I got the call this morning at 8:00 am, (1/31/15)
And Jershi told me you passed away.
You waited for Jershi to wake up before your departure.
There was such love and a special bond between you two,
I couldn’t help crying out loud.
It was expected, but it was hard to handle,
I just wanted to weep, and needed to let it out.

We went to see you last night,
The doctor had suggested that your cancer had taken its toll.
It became too much for you,
It was time to let you go.
No matter how hard it was,
Jershi decided to keep you one more day,
So we could go say good-bye to you.

10527823_10153003748250781_3344998781769294061_n-1

And today he arranged for the specialist to give you an injection,
To stop your pain,
To let you rest in peace.
But you left naturally,
For you knew that none of us would be able to see the needle go into you,
And then watch you stop breathing,
Oh, God what a loving and thoughtful dog you were.

I still remember the day you came,
You were four months old…
You had to travel by plane from your hometown to the strange city of LA.
You took it well,
You adjusted quickly,
For you there was no past, only the present.
You moved forward with trust in Jershi.

unnamed-2

Throughout the last ten years,
You gave us not only Love,
Your unconditional love,
You gave us your all,
You were always loyal,
You were always joyous, uplifting
There wasn’t any dull moment around you.

We gradually found something different in you:
You were obedient,
You were always calm,
You seemed to know when we were in need of comfort,
You would always stay close to us.
It reminded us that you comforted your old neighbor who had cancer before you came to us,
And you were so young, only a couple of month old.

When Jershi found out you had cancer,
He tried all means to save you,
For you were so dear to him,
He could not let you go.
Chemotherapy…after chemotherapy
Months after months…
You never moaned and complained.

I took you to have chemotherapy one time,
You were still joyous,
You weren’t bothered by the painful treatment…
You knew how much Jerrshi wanted to keep you with him,
You just took it in.
It was heartbreaking to feel how fragile you became,
I could only hold you tightly and cry my heart out.

Jershi Lin's photo.

At that moment, I could feel the warmth that you transmitted to me,
It seemed that we were no longer two different species.
The flowing of love was all there was.
It was such a warm and beautiful feeling.
I could not help holding you tighter, close to my heart,
I could not help murmuring in your ear,
“Buster, I love you.”

IMG_4834                                                                              “I love you, Buster!”

At that moment, I realized that you showed me,
Love is not just restricted to among human beings only,
It applies to all beings.
No matter what we are – animals or human beings,
We can all love each other.
Love is above all else in the world,
Love has no boundaries.

We could see the old soul in you,
You came into our lives for a purpose,
You gave Jershi unconditional love,
Not only did you broaden his mind,
But also you helped him grow…
My appreciation for your help to my son Jershi indescribable,
Moreover, you did the same for us…

10985571_10153003470760781_767054569139340409_o

Oh, you don’t know how much we miss you…
Because you were not an ordinary dog,
You were our teacher.
You were our friend,
You were our family member,
And you continue to be all of these things for us.
We love you no matter where you are…
Thank you, and thank you…
For your presence in our lives over the last ten years.

Love (1)-True Self or False Self (Part 1)

After completing my recent blog post entitled “My Life Story (10): Fire Brings out Spiritual Being,” I found myself lingering in deep thoughts regarding the connection of humans and love. Around the same time, a close friend enlisted my help in investigating the authenticity of a particular watch. This watch, undoubtedly beautiful on the surface, was given to him as a token of gratitude for helping out another friend. Upon a closer look, I saw that the watch was marked with the name, “Patek Philippe,” which just so happens to be one of the most expensive watches in the world. So, I decided to take the watch to an extremely reputable high-end store selling pre-owned luxury handbags and accessories located in Beverly Hills, California.

The Patek Philippe “World Time” sold in April 2006 at Antiquorum for $ 2.9 million.

#12 The Patek Philippe "World Time" sold in April 2006 at Antiquorum for $ 2.9 million.

Upon entering the store, my friend and I were greeted by a well-dressed jewelry technician who agreed to take a look at the watch. With his magnifying glass, he slowly examined the entire shiny, sleek surface of the watch. With a look of concern in his eyes, he went to his computer and began to type. A few moments later, he handed back the watch and said he could not make us an offer on it, nor provide us with a rough estimate of the watches’ worth. He went on to explain that each Patek Philippe watch had a corresponding list as a guide for purchasing from the customers. My friend’s watch did not have some of the items in his list. Company policy prevented him from assisting me any further.

We left feeling confused and disappointed, but we didn’t stop there. We decided instead to find another respectable local company to provide us with a second opinion. This time, after the magnifying glass was drawn from the technicians eye and placed back inside his pocket, he handed back the watch and gave us a response that was a little more straightforward: It was a replica. A fake.

The Henry Graves “supercomplication,” also by Patek Philippe, sold for $11 million at Sotheby’s in December 1999. It’s the most complicated watch ever created. This watch is sold for record $24.4 million in 2014.

While I felt bad for my friend who had hoped the watch might have been worth something, the whole experience peaked my interest. I went home and started to research how one would learn to distinguish a real watch from a fake. Apparently, we are able to distinguish the authenticity of a watch through our sense of touch, sight and sound.

Authentic watches are sturdy and relatively heavy, as they are made with strong materials. The real thing has extremely smooth mechanisms, which means there won’t be the ticking sound you expect with cheaper fake watches. Possibly the most apparent difference would be determined by taking a look at the watch through a magnifying glass. This will reveal whether the serial or model numbers are engraved or printed. Of course, the numbers of the genuine ones are engraved whereas fakes are printed using ink. Additionally, counterfeit models often cannot replicate the watches logo(seal) accurately.

As I began to reflect upon what I had shared in my recent blog post about our true nature, the words ‘genuine’ and ‘fake’ started to dance around in my head, just begging for more of my attention. All of a sudden, I shifted my focus from the authenticity of the watch to myself. I asked myself: Am I real or fake? Am I genuine or counterfeit? Can people see my truthfulness? Can they sense my genuineness as they could with the watch?

We are spiritual beings. At our core, every single one of us is made of pure love. However, much like the watch, our appearance can only reveal so much of who we truly are on the inside. Sometimes the ego takes over and makes people look and act contrary to the love that is in their hearts. The ego – the greatest threat to pure love – is what causes people to lie, to hate and to pretend to be someone other than who they are on the inside. Yet, if the self-image that someone is trying to project to the world isn’t true to who they are on the inside, eventually, hopefully, we will learn to see whether or not their love is pure or tainted by the ego. I know that at the heart of who I am, there is pure, un-contaminated, non-judgmental, unconditional love. I am love. Yes, love is what we are all made of, and when we are genuine, others feel it.

To be continued.
